Clarets into the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup

Here is the latest blog from Mike Garlick Burnley fan blog. Burnley beat West Brom en route to the semi-finals of the competition in 2012 when they also knocked out Fulham. Second-half goals from Dylan Moonan and Corey Brennan sent the Clarets into the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup as they wound back the clock in superb style at the Tameside Stadium.

“I’m really proud. It’s a fantastic achievement against a very well-established and successful Category One team,” said Philliskirk. “Everything I asked the boys to do and everything we’ve worked on leading up to the game came to fruition.

Burnley team who are yet to concede a goal in their best run for eight years. Burnley had as good as won their opening two ties with three-goal bursts inside the first 20 minutes. But this was always going to be a more competitive affair with little between the sides in an entertaining first half.

The Under-18s head coach added: “We’ve been pretty inconsistent this season and if you had said to me at the start of the season we were going to get to the last eight of the FA Youth Cup, I’d have probably said ‘I’m not sure about that. But as time has gone they’ve just grown together. The spirit is so good amongst them and whatever level of football you play at if you’ve got that you give yourself a chance and it was shown in abundance tonight.”
